This IS awesome! Good job. Mind if I link to it for my HAES and Body Acceptance thread I have on a HUGE teen-centered message board?
Thank you guys…I was really nervous about posting it.
And yes, please link away, Jen. I will be glad if the message can actually reach people, rather than just being a class assignment!
Wow, it’s amazing!!
Ha-ha, I found your weblog, Chartreuse!
Yay, I’m in there!
That was cute!
Yay! I’m in it! :)
It’s really awesome. I love it!
That’s beautiful. That needs to be on national TV.

Beautiful!!!!
BRILLIANT! :D
The variety of bodies and activities is utterly beautiful. The timing of the pictures and the use of music, also excellent. It was an absolute pleasure to see that :)

Awesome, awesome work. I hope Every Body sees this.

Oh, that’s so beautiful. That makes my day. Thank you for making this!
Fantastic! I linked to it from my blog because I want all my readers (all 10 of them) to see it.
This is great!
I’m sort of embarrassed to say how disappointed I am not to be in it, but the ones you chose were all just right. :)
Fan-freakin’-tastic!
Linked not just in my blog, but also in my siggie on a discussion board I frequent. Good stuff!
Have you uploaded this to YouTube? If not I definitely think you should! I would love to be able to post this on my blog and share with others.
Awesome video, Peggy! :)
Willa, I was so sad to not include your awesome activity pictures, and a few others that were submitted. Every one I had to leave out hurt my feelings a little bit, I swear :/ But I may still use the other photos in a presentation I have to give.
SO SO SO SO GOOD!!! I love it.
That was just wonderful. It made me smile – and teary, too!
xx Dee
Wow! Thanks to Kate Harding for linking to this- it made my day! I’m going to watch it every time I feel negative body feelings coming on.

That is all kinds of awesome!
It’s SO cute!! I love the variety of people.
This is lovely! I loved that there was such a varies of sizes, shapes, colors, genders, etc– it is very inclusive and upbeat! Also, is Maria Callas one of the 1940’s/50’s bathing beauties?
You got it, Sophia. She’s on the far left :)
That was beautiful! Thank you for that.
LOVE!!!
Brava! When’s the next installment? :-)
Kelly
Brava!!! One word of caution, though: if you do upload the video to YouTube, be sure to disable comments. They’re… not terribly evolved over there.
Excellent video!
Oh, now THAT is well done. Great timing, excellent choice of music, and freakin’ fabulous subject matter. Good job you!!

*Bows down* We’re not worthy, we’re not worth!
It’s awesome. I really enjoyed seeing so many “types” of bodies, just, well, just being bodies!
Great job!
Wow, that’s beautifully done! :)
Okay, that’s too damn cool for words. Love it!
*applauds* Marvelous! Just absolutely terrific.
(And I’m glad to have found you again since you’ve left LJ. *bookmarks*)
Peggy, thought I’d drop back by and answer some of the questions you asked about my response to this video on my blog. First off, like I said, it’s got a great message, and suggest you may want to upload it at YouTube or Google Video so it can be shared. It would be great for you to add your credits and allow other people to keep spreading this!
Next, I said I had a love/hate relationship with the video. It was one of those things where I liked it the more it went on. In the beginning, it starts with “Feed me” and people eating a lot of less than healthy food: high carbs, sausages, hotdogs and other “goodies”. I think that kinda threw me, because while I agree that eating what you want in some moderation is a good thing, and that people shouldn’t be obsessed with their food choices, it seemed to me that people who really love their bodies will nourish their bodies, not just feed them. While I understand that deprivation is not the way to health or self acceptance, I also know that self love includes a great deal of care.
As the video went on and it was clear that the video was about self love (at first I was a little worried it was promoting stuffing) I liked the video a great deal more. I found it interesting that the body image issues seemed to be mostly about weight and body shape, which I agree is an important issue, and probably a lot of the photos were chosen for availability, but it left me wondering about other issues like age and disability.
Honestly, for a video about weight and shape acceptance you can already see what a positive effect it’s had on the blogging community, and again I suggest you upload it to share. This was a WONDERFUL idea.
Hey, I posted a little more about it on my blog, but I don’t know how to make it backtrack (is that automatic?) anyway…
That cheered me right the heck up. Thank you! Awesome!
Well done!
Quick note — most public access television stations will air ANYTHING that is accompanied by a tape or CD in a format they can use (varies – ask locally for detail).

Kate, I’m glad you responded. I was curious what your opinion would be, since we are both coming from different perspectives.
As a nutrition student, I think I have a pretty good handle on what ‘healthy food choices’ are — or are supposed to be. But I think that, except in extreme cases, most people actually have a pretty good handle on feeding themselves and that, more important than continually tweaking the food intake of a privileged, rich, healthy population with an abundant food supply in an attempt to create a zero health-risk situation, is promoting the idea of autonomy and self-efficacy.
People are allowed to eat what they want, even if those choices are, on some level, “bad.” Ellyn Satter (a dietitian) has a very interesting article on this issue here (warning, PDF.) I actually think there could be a case made that the prescriptive/proscriptive nutrition messages that constantly surround us are more harmful to people’s health and well-being than being exposed to a slideshow in which people enjoy hotdogs and marshmallows.
And, for what it’s worth, those happened to be the food choices of people who sent in the pictures, and I found it interesting that the great majority of the people in my “feed me” section were not fat. That in itself questions some of the stereotypes surrounding food choices and body size.
“I found it interesting that the body image issues seemed to be mostly about weight and body shape, which I agree is an important issue, and probably a lot of the photos were chosen for availability, but it left me wondering about other issues like age and disability.”
Those are also good points — and I guess this is the place where I should say that this video was targeted to a specific audience: university-age females who might be at risk for body image problems or eating disorders. I would have loved to included more groups and addressed more issues, but the assignment parameters limited me. Also, your suspicions about availability are correct — I pretty much just used whatever photos people sent me.
Thank you very much for responding to my question, Kate, and for your wonderful compliments. Unfortunately, I had this video originally hosted on YouTube, and it was removed. As this was for a school project, I didn’t seek permission to use the song (it is copyrighted) so it really would not be appropriate for me to broadcast this in any wider sense without permission from the copyright holder.
peggy, add me to the list of people totally in love with your video! it’s sweet & upbeat, getting the point across without hitting you upside the head like a brick. thanks for the huge smile today!
Great stuff!

Fabulous work. It’s wonderful to see people enjoying food and their bodies. Vive les plaisirs de la vie et vivant actuellement!!! (long live the pleasures of life and actually LIVING)
I so agree. We need to love ourselves for who we are. I am not sure we are handling the obesity problem the right way. People who are over weight do not need someone to judge them. THEY NEED SUPPORT. If they start hating their bodies it will not make them eat less it will just frustrate them and they will eat more.
I am most concerned with our children. I do a program for kids at schools called healthy eating. I do not judge kids, I just help them understand how their bodies work and the value of good food in good portion sizes. Parents, principals, and teachers can see it at educational assembly.com.
Thanks for the great video to love yourself. I hope you do put it on UTUBE. Sheila Rae
Sheila, you have some interesting points. I would encourage you to take it a step further, beyond the ideas of ‘overweight’ and ‘portion control’ (quoting from your website.) People (including children) come in a variety of shapes and sizes, and I believe everyone is capable of feeding themselves in a way that supports good health — without external interventions or rule-sets to control what or how much they eat.
But you are absolutely right — we don’t need to be judging kids, and it’s certainly not good for anyone’s health for them to learn to hate themselves.
You might be interested in reading about Ellyn Satter’s approach to ‘childhood overweight.’
Bravo!!
Your project turned out beautifully!!
Oh, peggynature, I’m not “mad at you” or anything for not including me–I just wish I’d gotten pics to you sooner, then maybe they would have been more useful! It’s funny, this is the first time I’ve ever *willingly* posted photos of myself anywhere, as I’ve always hated having pictures taken of me. So I guess it was good for me regardless. :)
Removed from YouTube–for what? Copyright infringement? Because people use copyrighted music all the time in personal videos there, and it isn’t as if you’re making money off this. But I guess you can’t really argue with them…
Yey, Betty Boop! Ok not really, but it’s the song she’s famous for covering.
OMG – have I ever seen anything as nice looking and yet informative?
full marks
Oh, that’s wonderful. I teared up :)
I’ve put on some weight recently and I’m not as chilled about it as I thought I was, so this is really encouraging to see.
What an upper!
Nice!
Haha, absolutely wonderful. Well done.
That was lovely.
That’s really, really lovely! Is there anyway that you could get copyright permission to repost on Youtube?
I’ve been having a bad, teary day and your video is like a sweet word from a kind friend.
Absolutely Awesome!! Bravo!
Great video. A cool way to show size acceptance that did not seem like a child throwing a fit. Bravo keep up the fantastic work.
Yay, I made it!
This is an AWESOME video!!! *hugs* thank you for making it!
That was nice. I like the diversity of images.
This video is awesome!!! I love it:) Thank you so much!
Angel
Sorry, wrong link to my website. I corrected it here:)
*claps*
what more do i need to say besides that?? :)
darn! i was hoping to catch this but the movie seems to be gone now :( is this up anywhere? or do I just have a bad link now?
It’s still working as far as I can tell, Kai. Try again!
(The only possible difference is that it was originally, for about an hour, hosted on YouTube and imbedded on this page. That didn’t stay up long, so I uploaded it directly to WordPress and imbedded it. Maybe your original link pointed to the YouTube version? Not sure.)
works great now! thanks for the suggestions… awesome work!
