Just to let you know, in case you didn’t know, that I’ve been writing a few posts elsewhere lately. I’m still confused by the idea that anyone might check this blog instead of waiting for stuff to show up on the Fatosphere feed, but people keep clicking on this shit, so I have to assume [...]
The foam is not very impressive in this picture, probably because the bottle had been transported in my backpack all day and opened a couple of times. It was still fizzy though!
The bottle conditioning worked, and my chicha was fizzy as all get-out. For the longest time, I could NOT get over the fact that [...]
Chicha progress.
So, as I said in my previous post, I’m fermenting quinoa (and barley) into an alcoholic beverage known as chicha. Here’s what it looks like so far:
Slightly blurry photo (impressionist.) That stuff on top is foam (and plastic wrap.)
I’ll probably have to put up some money to get people to drink it, myself included. [...]
Things I actually did/said.
A quick rundown on why I have no friends at school:
1. My partner for the food demo project suggested we do quinoa.
2. I wanted to do lard, as you may recall. He said, “What could you even make with lard?” and I was like, “PIE.” It is the word to end all words.
3. He [...]
Nipples of Venus
Last night, from 10 to 2, and this morning, from 7 until now, I spent up to my elbows in melted chocolate.
I am making truffles…Nipples of Venus, to be precise. The only ingredients are: chocolate for ganache, chocolate for dipping, heavy cream, and butter. It somehow seems so wrong, but it tastes so right.
This is [...]
The rest of my paper.
I’ve spent most of this morning dancing around to mid-60s British invasion music in my bathrobe. In front of the big window where the neighbours can see in. Take that, neighbours!
I guess I am very happy that my paper is finished and turned in, and all I have to do now is some minimal preparation [...]
Paper.
I stayed up until 6:30am working on my paper the other night. Whatever night that was. The last time I posted. I think the 8th/9th.
I’m quickly losing track of days.
Here’s an excerpt (remember, rough draft still):
For the finding that Hispanic and Asian girls had lower levels of strenuous activity, the authors offer the explanation that [...]
I’m doing this critical analysis of a random research study I dredged out of the depths of some online peer-reviewed search engine. I just had to find something, anything, using race or ethnicity as a variable related to some nutrition topic.
The paper I decided to use, PURELY because it was only three pages long and [...]
I went to the bookstore on my lunch hour and picked up my nutrition book. It is Understanding Nutrition, Ninth Edition by Eleanor Whitney and Sharon Rolfes, copyright 2002.
The first chapter I flipped to, of course, was “Weight Management: Overweight and Underweight” just to see what they’d have to say. Here are some [...]
On a whim, I looked up my Chemistry grade online. It hadn’t been posted as of yesterday. Then, there it was: a glorious C minus. Which means, technically, I made it into the nutrition program for September.
Oh, God, thank you so, so much. Thank you for not letting me give [...]
That’s just me.
Last night the biology test went okay. I probably got a C. It’s hard to be a good student these days. I couldn’t remember all the junk about the xylem and the phloem. Ah well. The lecture afterward was pretty interesting…the details of human digestion. It actually cleared up [...]
I got my chemistry test back today.
Twelve hours of studying and I got a 57%.
I guess it wasn’t that horrible since the class average was 63%
Still, I felt so horrible that I left class early.
I sat on the bus, barely not crying.
I watched a short man carry a board bigger than him.
And I wondered, do [...]
Well, I guess it wasn’t much of a surprise to the students who are actually UP on that kind of thing. But yesterday when I went to study, as is my habit after work, I looked at my Biology syllabus to see the dreaded T word staring back at me.
Fuuuuuck.
So, I studied the [...]
This particular heaven.
So, it struck me while I was in biology class that this was it…this is the closest thing I am going to get to a religion in my life: science.
Allow me to explain.
I don’t think that science is infallible. In fact, it’s rather endearingly human in that it constantly develops and folds [...]
